What ‘Kite Runner’ taught me

I eventually and completly read ‘Kite Runner’ and learned something very important in some aspects. Before I read the book, I had had totally distorted images and mind toward afghanistan people. Actually, I had been ignorant about them, and thought of ’taliban’ and ‘afghanistan’ as being equivalent. However, That was my foolish mistake. Those have been exactly opposite to each other in reality.

As a matter of fact, a Taliban represents frenzy, death, and the state of distress, where as afghanistan people stands for tranquility, vitality, and the friendly. Then, what have made my mind biased? How could I condemn the people even I didn’t know much about?

The all information I got was from the media, the press, and politicians after  ‘911′. America declared the war against Afghanistan, not taliban, according to the images newspapers and TV injected in me. Moreover, Osama Bin Laden, who committed the unforgettable terror, was the everything I could imagine as the leader of the nation, Afghanistan. No article among I’d read, dealt with the hardship the ordinary afhganistan folks have faced, and lived with.

I found that my blindness is the matter not only to me, but to human beings. We are very interested in choosing a target to be condemned and attacked. Simultaneously, we are significantly indifferent to many other people’s suffering. This disposition, wicked yet commonplace, we must recognize.

PS) This is not the solution for question 1, HR. I’ll post it later

After the long but too short journey

s8002764.jpg

15 days ago, at the Incheon airport, I thought like the trip would never end.

However, time flies, truly.

And the moments I enjoyed were fleeting.

The orientation , the first flight, the exciting welcome from Taeho and Denis,  etc

I’m not so sure when we will meet again, and chatter about the days.

Even, I’m worried that last night’s farewell will be the last.

Nevertheless, I’m pretty certain that what I learned from the trip with you guys will show me the way I have to go, and make me strong.

With the hope that my reminiscence of the trip lives forever in me, I once more realize that the time to leave is just another time to start.

Really, I miss you guys TH DU DS MT HR

  • Decided to visit “Jelly-Belly Factory”
  • Took a siesta in Halle’s car while moving to the factory

At the factory

  • Took a lecture, which granted the degree of ‘beanology’, about the history of the factory and development of Jelly-belly.
  • A lot of Soveniors were avalilable there, and I bought some jellys as gifts.

At night

  • Looked around the place, ” Fishermans wharf”, and said good-bye to Halle.
  • entered a shop selling Nintendo-thing for DU
  • Have dinner at “Korea-Jung”, where president Roh once ate “Soy-bean JJigae”, I ordered “Hwoi Nang Myun and enjoyed the meal

07 Jan ‘The first day in US’

‘Batiq scholars’ gathered at Incheon Airport in the afternoon. Mr. Choi, the one of the founder of Batiq, greeted us with new Batiq Jacket and Backpack. Saying them ‘farewell’, we took the first plane to ‘Airport Nakata’, via which we would go Sanfrancisco.

In the airport headed to Sanfrancisco, I had a rather enjoyable time comparing to other team members(DU, DS, MT) as my seat was between that of HR and the window while those of the members were spreaded and surrounded by unknowns. I never slept during the flight except a while but watched movies(Rush Hour 3, Bon Ultimatum0, read the las  volume of Harry Potter Series with listening some classical music.

We eventually arrived at the Sanfrancisco international airport, and successfully passed the immigration bureau, though DU got a little trouble with the officers. TH, Dennis and Katie welcomed us, and we came to Hotel Kabuki, where I am writing this words.

After we having some noodles, TH guided us into city-tour. The city aroused the sense of what ‘variety’ is. We visited Union square, Pacific ocean, etc.

Overcomed by fatigue, I went to comfortable and spongy bed right off the bat, enjoyed my first sleep in US.
